The problem

Filing a consumer complaint shouldn't feel like a second job.

Most people with a real grievance give up before filing — because the process is opaque, expensive, and written in a language only lawyers understand.

01

You don't know if you qualify

The Consumer Protection Act has scope rules — what counts as a "consumer", which commission applies, filing deadlines. Most people only find out they were ineligible after weeks of paperwork.

02

The format is unforgiving

A complaint has a specific structure: complainant, opposite party, facts, relief sought, affidavit, annexures. A missing section or wrong header means the Commission rejects the filing.

03

Lawyers are expensive

Drafting fees for a single consumer complaint can run into thousands of rupees — often more than the disputed amount itself. For a ₹20,000 claim, that math doesn't work.

Self-serve · How it works

From question to filed complaint — in four stages.

FAQ

Common questions.

Am I eligible to file a consumer complaint?
You're likely eligible if you bought goods or hired a service for personal or household use, and the goods were defective, the service deficient, or you were overcharged. Purchases for business or resale are generally outside the Consumer Protection Act. Our 2-minute eligibility check confirms fit before you commit.
Which Consumer Commission will my complaint go to?
It depends on the amount you paid. Up to ₹50 lakh → District Commission. ₹50 lakh to ₹2 crore → State Commission. Above ₹2 crore → National Commission. ConsumerDraft computes the correct tier and drafts the right Commission header for you.
Can I consult a lawyer — for this case, or another legal issue?
Yes. Our partner advocates advise on consumer disputes and beyond — property, employment, family, contracts, criminal, and civil matters. Whether you want a second opinion before filing, drafting on your behalf, or full representation before a Commission or court, consult a lawyer →. A consultation fee applies, refundable if the lawyer advises no case is required.
How long do I have to file?
Under the Consumer Protection Act, a complaint is typically filed within 2 years of the cause of action — usually when you first noticed the problem. If you're past the deadline, a Commission may still accept a late filing with a condonation application explaining the delay.
What documents will I need?
At minimum: proof of purchase (invoice or receipt) and proof of the problem (photos, emails, chat screenshots). If you complained to the company before filing, include that written complaint and their reply. ConsumerDraft reminds you of every document the affidavit needs.
